Department has continued its role as a leader in local law enforcement while

protecting the residents of the City of Cranston.

INTRODUCTION

The purpose of the Office of Professional Standards is to, first and foremost, protect

the integrity of the Cranston Police Department. The integrity of the Cranston Police

Department is reflected and represented by the personal discipline of each employee.

To a certain degree, the Department's public image is developed and strengthened by

the Professional Standards Office's response to allegations of misconduct committed

by employees and its response to complaints concerning dissatisfaction with the

department's services, policies, procedures, or practices.

The thorough investigations of any allegations ensure that the department's integrity

is maintained at the highest level. The complaints the office receives are investigated

to determine whether they are substantiated or unsubstantiated by evidence, and the

reported conclusions of fact are communicated to the Colonel.

The objectives of the Professional Standards Office are diverse and numerous:

• Protection of the public trust

• Protection of the department

• Protection of employees

• Retention of corrigible employees

• Removal of unfit personnel
